Attachment Trauma

What is attachment trauma?
Attachment trauma is a type of relational trauma that happens when a child's caregiver is unable to meet the emotional or physical needs of their child, impacting the child's sense of safety and security. It can be a result of abuse, neglect, enmeshment, misattunement, chronic stress in the environment, or loss or separation.
How attachment trauma impacts adults
Our early attachment relationships set up a blueprint for our relationships later in life. Those who have experienced attachment trauma may experience difficulties in their adult relationships. This can manifest as high relationship anxiety, avoidant patterns, fear of rejection or abandonment, or difficulty maintaining long term relationships.
How I treat attachment trauma
The most important aspect to healing attachment wounds is to be able to connect to a sense of safety and security. I take a very relational approach that prioritizes the therapeutic relationship and your safety. Once we've co-created a safe container, I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support you in healing your inner children so that you can bring that sense of Self security in your other relationships.
